If you know me, you might know I'm a big fan of mnemonic devices to help remember things. Rhyming is one of those tools that can be helpful.

Ever since I read a devotion by Joyce Meyer recently, I've heard these words in my head: "Complain and remain. Praise and be raised."

What does this mean?

Are you guilty of cursing other drivers or complaining about going to work? Chances are...yes. Because you're human.

It can be hard to catch ourselves when we're complaining about something or someone. But complaining is doing ourselves a disservice. It keeps us down...in the negative...in the grumbling, don't-mess-with-me mode.

Praise and be raised!

I interpret this in a couple of ways. The Bible says we should enter God's courts with praise and thanksgiving (Psalms 100:4). When we do, it glorifies God.

It also benefits us on a personal level. When we have an attitude of gratitude, it helps us have a positive outlook. Your words matter...even the ones you speak to yourself.

Be thankful. Be positive. Praise and be raised.
